When Brooke Wellnitz wants the basketball there is nothing that is going to stop her from getting it.
She controlled the basketball Saturday and the result was a Regional championship and a big win over Wauzeka-Steuben. The Argyle/Pecatonica junior accounted for 30 points to lead A/P to a 69-38 and a trip to the Division 5 Sectionals tonight.
It will be a match-up of familiars as A/P will meet up with Six Rivers East opponent Barneveld. The Golden Eagles beat A/P in their recent meet-up and prevented them from an outright title. When the regular season in the Six Rivers East ended Argyle/Pec and Albany/Monticello shared the crown with Barneveld third.
Saturday Wellnitz had a monster first half with 18 of her 30 and teamed with Kylie Butler who slipped in 11. That gave A/P a 35-22 lead they never came close to surrendering.
Butler finished the night with 19 points. Seven girls scored for Argyle/Pec.
“I thought it was a great team win,” A/P coach Jen Wellnitz/Krogman said. “We played awesome as a collective whole.”
Wellnitz-Krogman was happy she could send her seniors with their final game on their home court a win.
“It couldn’t have been a better last game on that court for our seniors,” the coach said. “We are excited and blessed to get to practice and play again next week. We will get after it in preparation for a familiar opponent.”
